PIRATES OF SOMALIA

VIEW TRAILER

IN PRODUCTION: DELIVERY FALL 2012
PIRATES OF SOMALIA explores the real and perilous world of piracy off the Somali coast, from the point of view of the pirates. Writer/director Kim Finn and producer John Hakalax delve into the lives and struggles of the Somali people and put a human face to this dangerous piracy problem.

The film follows a 15-year old Somali boy as he meets participants, founders, supporters, enemies as well as victims of the Somali sea piracy movement on his journey towards his first potential piracy job. The boy is forced to leave his village and goes on an ominous quest in a lawless war ridden land. With exclusive access to the pirates and their hi-jacked ships, the filmmakers show us the tough choices he must make in order to survive and achieve his dream of a better life.

Having filmed in secrecy on location in the extremely dangerous northern part of Somalia, writer/director Kim Finn and producer John Hakalax delve into the lives and struggles of the Somali people and put a human face to this dangerous piracy problem. Finn & Hakalax have successfully collaborated together on numerous documentaries, including “Riot On!” which became the first Finnish documentary to receive prime time airing on BBC in the UK. Their other credits include “Rhymes and Nonsense,” “Brave Boys,” “Manhattan Rendez-Vous,” “Marketing Psychosis of the 3rd Degree,” and “Raiders of The Lost Kung Fu.”
